Description
The Collection Strategy Librarian will help develop and manage the UT Libraries (UTL) collections in all subject areas. They will work closely with librarians in the Scholarly Resources Department and across UTL to ensure that the collections meet the university’s current and future teaching, learning, and research missions. This position will also perform the duties of a subject liaison. The Collection Strategy Librarian is a member of the Collections Team in the Scholarly Resources Department.
Responsibilities
- Gather, synthesize, assess, and utilize data from various sources to identify new research needs and potential new content; identify and analyze overall trends in usage, user needs, and collections spending; and create future strategies for Collections budgets and purchasing.
- Assist with major functions of the Collections Team such as monitoring and planning fund spend-down, identifying potential product trials, monitoring and supporting approval plans, prioritizing wishlists, monitoring and supporting open access initiatives, handling gift material, fulfilling purchase requests, and administering, supporting, and growing our various ebook, journal, and database programs.
- Establish and maintain relationships with the community of students and researchers in subject areas in the Social & Behavioral Sciences, as well as related programs and centers. Serve as primary library contact for faculty and graduate students. Provide in-person and remote reference, research assistance, and consultation to faculty, students and the wider community. Conduct instruction sessions and explore other avenues for promoting information literacy. Develop and maintain subject-specific web pages. Engage with constituent departments and units in meaningful, relevant and sustainable ways, including scholarly communication and Open Agenda initiatives. Participate in outreach and marketing efforts to raise awareness of library resources and services. Responsible for collection development and information resource management in all formats.
- Other related functions as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of collection development topics and scholarly publishing practices and trends.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across organizational units.
- Demonstrated ability to design and manage projects, bringing them to a successful conclusion.
- Experience providing customer service.
Hours and Compensation
Full time, $52,000 + depending on qualifications
