Job Description
We’re looking for an organized, friendly, engaging, and public-service-oriented person to fill the position of Young Adult librarian. This is a new position at the Levi Heywood Memorial Library. We have been expanding our library programming and outreach in recent years in order to comply with our 5 year strategic plan, and are excited to be expanding our services to teens.
- Responsible for the daily operation of the Young Adult department.
- Coordinates all Young Adult programming within the Library and with outside agencies.
- Develops and maintains the Young Adult collections of books, periodicals, and audio-visual materials.
- Writes grant applications.
- Provides reference and reader advisory services.
- Handles Young Adult publicity and community outreach.
- Coordinates with other departments on multi-generational programming, and serves as back-up staff for other departments throughout the library.
- May supervise volunteers, including teen volunteers, and paraprofessional staff.
Qualifications:
- MLS preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Three years of library experience.
- Experience planning library programs and working with older children in groups.
- Considerable knowledge of library resources and of age-appropriate literature.
- Familiarity with Evergreen software desired.
Salary: $24.25 per hour. This is a part-time 18 hour/week position that requires evenings and Saturdays. Hours may be varied during school breaks.
