Job Description
The Reference Librarian plays a vital role in providing excellent library services to patrons by offering research assistance, answering reference inquiries, and guiding individuals in utilizing library resources. They are responsible for maintaining and organizing reference materials, creating research guides, and delivering information literacy instruction. The Reference Librarian also collaborates with other library staff to develop and implement programs that support lifelong learning and information access for the community. This position requires strong communication skills, a deep understanding of library systems and databases, and a passion for helping library users access and evaluate information effectively.
PAY RATE: $44,137.60 per year
This is a full-time position, approximately 40 hours per week. Candidates must be available to work any hours the library branch is open. The Library Station is open Monday through Thursday 8:30-9:00, Friday 8:30-8:00, Saturday 8:30-7:00 and Sunday 10:00-6:00. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County. Essential Functions
- Primarily responsible for providing professional level expertise in the delivery of library services to patrons
- Provides reader advisory services
- Responsible for merchandising and marketing the branch collection
- Promotes library services, programs & offerings
- Prepares written reports and correspondence as required
- Acts as PIC (Person In Charge) – will be the acting building manager as assigned, handling safety and security matters as they arise
- Keeps abreast of developments and trends in technology and Library services
- Contributes to material selection and collection development
- Performs public speaking, programming, tours and guides Reference Associates in same
- Works with Community Relations and Electronic Resources departments to see that Reference blogs and social media accounts have up-to-date content
- Develops training to improve the knowledge, skill and ability of paraprofessional staff
- Serves as Passport Acceptance Agent when certified, in branches where service is offered
- Interprets and implements the Library’s General Conduct Policy
- Consistently punctual for work and meetings. Completes assigned duties in a timely manner.
- Exemplifies professional attitude and demeanor while engaging constituents, including the ability to work and interact with others in a cooperative, pleasant, and constructive manner.
