Job Description
The Rhode Island Jewish Historical Association (RIJHA), in partnership with the National Park
Service, is seeking two interns to assist with a research, education, and public engagement
project. The RIJHA has received a generous grant from the National Park Foundation to tell the
story of the Hahn family of Providence. Isaac Hahn was the son of immigrants who became the
first Jewish elected official in Rhode Island. His son, J. Jerome Hahn, was a justice of the RI
Supreme Court. J. Jerome’s legacy includes many acts of philanthropy, including the first
stewardship of land that became Roger Williams National Memorial. This internship will help to
foster a sense of stewardship for public lands in Providence, RI.
The internship will begin in early August 2025 and continue through the end of 2025, or after
100 hours of work have been completed. A stipend of $2000 will be awarded upon completion.
Position Duties
- Assisting with public events at Roger Williams National Memorial and other sites around Providence
- Assisting park rangers or other staff in delivering pre-written lesson plans to community youth groups
Qualifications
- Ideal candidates are college students or recent graduates who studied history, anthropology, sociology, government, political science, art, education, public history, or a related field.
- Preference given to applicants who have a basic knowledge of U.S. history, a passion for education, and a desire to develop their professional skills and resume.
- The position requires some public speaking, so successful applicants would have experience and/or interest in speaking to small to mid-sized groups.
Hours & Compensation
- The interns will work a total of 100 hours.
- A stipend of $2000 will be awarded upon completion.
