Description
The Instruction and Outreach Librarian offers a student-centered approach, providing vision and leadership in the areas of instruction and outreach. This position includes delivering reference and research services, designing and conducting instruction classes, serving as a liaison to academic departments, and contributing to collection development to support students’ academic success. Responsibilities encompass providing services and resources in both physical and online library environments; utilizing exhibits, public programming, social media, and other innovative methods to engage the student community; and collaborating with campus partners on outreach initiatives to the broader community.
Responsibilities
- Provide library instruction in collaboration with course faculty and in accordance with ACRL standards for information literacy.
- Share responsibility with library faculty colleagues for all aspects of collection development of the reference collection, including selection and deselection of both print and electronic resources.
- Collaborate with academic department faculty to develop and maintain library collections that support the curriculum.
- Serve as a liaison with an academic departments and schools regarding library services, resources, and programs.
- Teach classes and workshops to support information literacy across the College, and collaborate on the creation of instructional materials, learning outcomes, and activities.
- Participate in providing reference and research consultation services to students, faculty, and staff.
- Lead, plan, design, and coordinate the library’s programming, workshops, and events to effectively communicate the library’s value to stakeholders.
- Develop innovative outreach programs to engage underserved populations with the Library’s resources.
- Provide instruction, outreach, and support that connect library resources and services to the information needs and experiences of students.
- Serve as the liaison with various campus units that provide student services and work collaboratively with staff in these units to identify the information literacy and other library-related needs of students.
- Promote campus-wide partnerships with other departments and student organizations to enhance the library’s role in student success.
- Collaborate with Library faculty and staff to develop inclusive outreach initiatives, including maintaining an active social media presence.
- Collaborate with the Instruction and Assessment Librarian and other library faculty to develop assessment tools and evaluate classes, resources, and student information literacy. development, especially concerning student success and retention.
- Monitor and evaluate trends and developments relevant to academic libraries.
- Foster an environment of accessibility, inclusion and respect.
- Fulfill faculty responsibilities, including participating in library, college, and professional committees, maintaining memberships in professional organizations, and engaging in publication and professional development activities.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years of experience in providing reference services, research support, library instruction, and collection development.
Hours and Compensation
