Description
The Georgetown Peabody Library seeks an energetic and enthusiastic candidate to serve as Library Technician at our Circulation Desk. This position works under the general supervision of the Library Director and Circulation Librarian. This position averages 10-14 hours per week including evenings or as designated by the Library Director. Hours are Tuesdays 3pm-8pm, Wednesdays 3pm-8pm and Saturday rotation shifts 9am-1pm (open on Saturdays September to June).
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing Circulation services, including checking materials in and out; emptying book drop and delivery bins; registering new library patrons; and assisting patrons with accounts. This includes providing technical and support desk services by welcoming patrons, responding to phone and emails, answering general reference questions, and reserving meeting spaces and museum passes. Informs patrons of new services; advises, assists, and instructs patrons on technical services and use of office equipment and e-readers software.
Attends staff meetings and training events. May occasionally cover the Reference or Children’s Room desks as needed. Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of library experience are required or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills: Proven ability and desire to work effectively with the public. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Experience with the use of the Internet, social media, databases and library systems (SirsiDynix Symphony preferred). Ability to work independently and as a team member. Detailed oriented and exhibits considerable judgment skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must communicate, talk and hear; frequently is required to stand; and occasionally is required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently must lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally must lift/and or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds; and seldom must lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges to read documents and analyze data. This position requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and to operate a keyboard at efficient speed.
Hours and Compensation
Hours: This position averages 10-14 hours per week including evenings or as designated by the Library Director. Hours are Tuesdays 3pm-8pm, Wednesdays 3pm-8pm and Saturday rotation shifts 9am-1pm (open on Saturdays September to June).
Salary: $20.9058/hour as of July 1, 2025. Position includes sick pay, but otherwise no benefits.
