Job Description
The Wyoming State Archives is looking for a candidate to fill the role of a roving archivist. The person in this position will bridge preservation science and practical action. They’ll travel across our beautiful state, working directly with museums, historical societies, archives, and cultural institutions to help them protect their most valuable assets. This isn’t just a desk job – they’ll be hands-on in the field, making real connections and driving meaningful change.
Position Duties
- Perform site visits incorporating staff interviews, storage inspections, catalog reviews, and administrative discussions to holistically review operations.
- Collect quantitative measurements and qualitative observations, comparing against discipline standards to identify areas for improvement.
- Synthesize findings into triaged recommendations, roadmaps based on budget, risk, and time projections.
- Follow up with institutions to track progress on suggested improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Preference may be given to applicants with a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science with archival specialization or equivalent PLUS a minimum of two years of work-related experience in an archival setting, preferably with a focus on arrangement and description.
- Experience with small archival organizations or historical societies is a plus (unpaid experience can apply).
Hours & Compensation
- Full-time
- $29.70 Hourly
