Job Description
The Ashby Free Public Library is seeking a Summer Intern to assist with the Smithsonian Voices and Votes Exhibit, a prestigious traveling exhibit exploring American democracy. This is a hands-on opportunity for students interested in history, museum studies, archives, marketing, and public engagement.
Position Duties
The intern will have the chance to:
- Work with archival materials at the Ashby Historical Society, helping to curate the local history portion of the exhibit.
- Collaborate with partners from the Smithsonian Institution and UMass Amherst in collecting and archiving microhistories from the community.
- Assist with exhibit curation, including design, storytelling, and presentation.
- Participate in marketing, advertising, and outreach to promote the exhibit.
- Help plan and coordinate public programs and events related to the exhibit.
Qualifications
- Has an interest in public history, museum studies, archives, marketing, or event planning.
- Enjoys hands-on work and is eager to be involved in all aspects of exhibit preparation.
- Is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with library staff, historical society members, and Smithsonian partners.
- Has strong organizational and communication skills.
