Family Archivist (Boston, MA)

Job Summary:

Boston-based family seeks part-time archivist for collecting, organizing and digitizing family records comprising hundreds of documents, photographs and objects inherited from more than five generations of ancestors from Switzerland, France and the US.  The goal is to create a cohesive and permanent record of the family history in both digital and analog format that is searchable, reviewable and enjoyed by current family members and enduring for following generations. 

Papers include materials from an American pioneer and dairy farmer from the Midwest, who moved to Switzerland in the 1860s. He and his brothers created what would become one of the largest companies in Europe, which still exists today. Included are personal, family and company materials. Collaboration with archives teams at the current company in Switzerland is on-going. Some of the correspondence is in German and French, but language skills are not required for the first phase.  Published resources on family history, genealogical treatments, and related business histories are available for reference.

Hours are flexible and hourly rate is $20-22/hour depending on level of experience.  Documents will be located in a dedicated office at the School of Library and Information Science at Simmons University. Persons who are close to completing coursework or recent graduates preferred.
