2025 Conference Attendance Scholarship, Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials (SALALM), New York, NY

Description
Since its founding in 1956, the Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials (SALALM) has engaged in various projects and programs designed to advance the scholarly study of Latin America, the Caribbean, Iberia, and the Latinx diasporas. This award is open to master’s candidates enrolled in ALA-accredited (or equivalent) programs in library, information, or archival studies, as well as early-career librarians in the U.S. and Canada, to attend the SALALM 70th Annual Conference, taking place May 26–29, 2025 in New York City. This year’s conference is hosted by New York University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS), in partnership with Columbia University, the City University of New York, and the New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.
Scholarship candidates must have completed at least one quarter or semester of study, or be early-career librarians, and demonstrate a strong interest in Latin America, the Caribbean, Iberia, or the Latinx diasporas.
The deadline for all application materials is Monday, March 10, 2024.

Who should apply?
Applicants able to demonstrate a strong interest in Latin America, the Caribbean, or their diasporas, or Iberia, and who have career aspirations involving service to academic users seeking information about or researching topics involving the Latin American, Caribbean, or Iberian regions are encouraged to apply. Interest may be demonstrated through previous work, internships, undergraduate or graduate-level study, involvement through volunteer programs with governmental, non- governmental, or private sector organizations, and research and publication on topics relevant to the area. Competency in one of the area’s major languages is highly important.
