Description
The Education Librarian develops and delivers library and research support to faculty, students, administrators, staff, and others in the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies and/or other academic departments as needed. Duties include providing research assistance, instruction, collection development support, and assistance with scholarly communication to academic departments. The Librarian serves as the subject specialist and primary contact person between the libraries and departments, programs, and research centers to which they are assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree, or international equivalent
- Considerable demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Considerable demonstrated ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others to address complex questions and devise solutions
- Considerable demonstrated analytical skills including independent problem solving and critical thinking
- Considerable demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a demanding and rapidly changing service-oriented environment
- Basic ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with teaching faculty in assigned disciplines
- Basic knowledge of the information and research needs of assigned disciplines and an understanding of current trends and issues in scholarly publishing and communication
- Basic ability to facilitate access to appropriate information resources by building local collections for the Darden College of Education & Professional Studies. All of these are subjective and open to interpretation.
- Basic experience working in a library
- Basic experience teaching, training, or providing educational presentations
- Basic coursework or work experience in education, a related discipline, or education librarianship
- Basic demonstrated experience working collaboratively to build services and develop solutions
- Considerable experience using technologies commonly used in library and office operations
