The Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (MassNAELA) in partnership with Honoring Choices Massachusetts and the Boston Public Library will be hosting an educational event on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 regarding information about advance care planning and completing a Health Care Proxy. We are seeking a detail-oriented intern to assist in coordinating the event, working closely with volunteer attorneys, and connecting community partners. This temporary position offers valuable experience in event coordination, legal services, and community outreach while supporting an important public service initiative.

Primary event: Health Care Proxy Presentation and Signing Event
Date: April 16, 2025
Time: 12:00 PM – Presentation, 12:30 PM – Signing Event
Location: Boston Public Library, Kirstein Business Library & Innovation Center, 700 Boylston Street,
Boston, MA 02116

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with volunteer attorneys, maintaining regular communication and scheduling
  • Assist in organizing and participating in planning meetings via Zoom
  • Meet regularly with the MassNAELA Executive Director
  • Help manage relationships with community partners and stakeholders
  • Provide on-site support during the Health Care Proxy signing event
  • Assist in coordinating potential additional signing events at other locations
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all planning activities and communications
  • Help create and distribute event materials and communications
  • Support volunteer recruitment and management efforts

Required Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years old and older, with high school plus education
  • Availability to work on-site during the April 16 event
  • Must have access to personal computer and reliable internet connection
  • Experience with Google File sharing
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency in virtual meeting platiorms, particularly Zoom
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in event planning or coordination
  • Knowledge of or interest in elder law, healthcare advocacy, or related fields
  • Previous experience working with volunteers
  • Familiarity with the Greater Boston area
  • Experience in community outreach or public service

Compensation and Terms

  • $5,000 stipend contingent on acceptance of a Grant Application.
  • This is a temporary position without benefits
  • The term of the internship is approximately 12 weeks (As soon as possible – April 25, 2025)
  • 5 – 10 hours of work is anticipated per week
  • Flexible remote work arrangements, with required in-person attendance at specified events and
    meetings
