Youth Services Library Assistant, Newburgh Free Library, Newburgh, NY

Description

  • Must enjoy working with youth of all ages (0-17), with an emphasis on ages 5-10.
  • Provides general assistance within the Town Branch and the Main Branch to children, parents,
    teachers, caregivers and other adults regarding collections, resources, programs, and services.
  • This position is 4 workdays per week including afternoons and one evening. One Saturday shift
    per month is required by contract.

Position Duties:

  • Facilitate elementary aged programs including crafts, story times, book clubs etc. as needed at
    the Main and Town Branch under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian II.
  • Maintain and manage records and information necessary for department’s services and
    programs, including statistics and records to evaluate services to youth.
  • Maintain and develop informational materials and resources for department (i.e. flyers,
    brochures, booklists, calendars, etc.) using Canva and other online tools.
  • May be assigned to represent the Library at events in the schools and in the community.
  • Works with department staff to evaluate and monitor materials, services and programs and
    make recommendations for change and improvement.
  • Performs general reference and readers’ advisory at service desks.
  • Provides general assistance for all department programs and activities.
  • Provides general clerical assistance in support of department staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4 year Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Working familiarity with library procedures and practices.
  • Proficiency with current technology, devices, and social media.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trends in children’s programming, activity and literacy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
