Assistant Director/Adult Services Librarian, Hanson Public Library, (Hanson, MA)

Job Description:

The Hanson Public Library is seeking a skilled and creative individual to fill the role of Assistant Director/Adult Services Librarian. This position is responsible for assisting the Library Director with the daily operations of the Library and for leadership and management of adult services. The successful candidate possesses excellent customer service skills, planning and organizational skills, and written and oral communication skills; has knowledge of current library practices, procedures, programs, and materials; demonstrates independent judgment, initiative and decision-making; and is adept at using a variety of technologies.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Plans and implements programs and services that respond to the educational and recreational needs of adults
  • Develops and participates in public relations and publicity efforts for Library activities and services; maintains the Library’s social media sites and website
  • Oversees collection management; selects, purchases, and withdraws materials
  • Answers reference questions from people of all ages; instructs patrons in the use of a wide variety of resources and technologies
  • Provides reader’s advisory services; creates reading recommendation lists and book displays
  • Trains and supervises other employees, assigns duties, and monitors performance
  • Acts as volunteer coordinator, responsible for scheduling, training, and supervising Library volunteers
  • Assists the Director with drafting policies, compiling statistics, preparing reports and presentations, conducting strategic planning, and budgeting for programs, materials, and supplies
  • Works collaboratively with Youth Services staff to enhance services to children and teens

35 hours/week with benefits, may include evening and Saturday hours

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program strongly preferred, but will consider candidates with equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience in professional public library work, including supervisory experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficiency with computers and other technology

Salary Range:
$31.37 – $41.15 per hour with MLS
$28.52 – $37.41 per hour without MLS
Union Grade V. Salary range in 12 steps.
