Job Description:
As the USACE Portland District Librarian, you will plan, direct, and operate the technical Library containing extensive technical materials that embrace global engineering technology covering all disciplines, the physical, social and natural sciences, architecture, construction technology, materials testing, hazardous waste management, public administration, financial and personnel management, and an 8,000 volume legal reference library.
Responsibilities:
- Provide selective and comprehensive reference services requiring professional expertise for retrieval of technical and scientific information.
- Utilize computer data bases; in-house collections; Corps-wide resources; universities; Library of Congress; and other national and international libraries, personal contacts with authors of research papers, for reference services.
- Plan, budget, organize and direct the Division/District Library program to meet engineering, scientific, and other mission requirements.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the acquisition and processing of informational materials to support the organizations informational needs.
- Manage a full range of services which require knowledge of a variety of specialties including engineering and physical natural sciences and construction technology.
Qualifications:
- Education: 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor’s degree.
- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1. performing literature searches that include subject bibliographies and indexes as well as other source materials; 2.) locating information from a variety of published and unpublished sources and electronic data bases; 3.) providing input and recommendations for collection development and source selection; 4.) providing instruction, training, and library support to a variety of users which include administrative, professional, scientific, and technical personnel; 5.) uploading permanent documents to digital library systems accessible to the public ensuring proper 508 compliance, metadata management, and digital collection management; AND 6.) Managing e-resources to include licensing, copyright, e-books, journals, technical codes & standards, and subscription services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

- Education: 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in Library Science or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) related to the position.
Salary
$78,044 – $78,044 per year
