The Digital Services Librarian provides critical leadership in the management of the Warren Hunting Smith Library’s electronic resources in order to support the learning and scholarship needs of the HWS community, and the overall mission of the colleges. This team member oversees and enriches the library’s digital content while understanding the complex interaction of resource management and our users’ information needs. As a member of the Collections, Discovery, and Systems teams, the Digital Services Librarian provides the HWS community with efficient and consistent access to electronic resources.

Under the supervision of the Head of Collections, Discovery, and Systems, the Digital Services Librarian actively develops and broadens the impact of digital content, as well as the systems hosting that content. As an agile and creative problem-solver, this team member seeks out time-saving automations, monitors a range of library systems, collects and analyzes relevant statistics, and troubleshoots resource linking. This team member will play an integral role in implementing, maintaining, and enhancing library systems and applications.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage digital resources via import processes.
  • Validate and update records for electronic resources
  • Participate in institutional repository management
  • Manage workflow of MARC record import for digital resources
  • Oversee activation of ebooks, databases, and electronic collections in Alma
  • Create and analyze statistical spreadsheets and report out on a regular basis
  • Monitor usage statistics collection via SUSHI and create monthly reports
  • Troubleshoot access to digital content, including EZProxy and authentication issues
  • Follow appropriate listservs and notify staff of issues
  • Actively participate in professional development and training opportunities
  • Creatively solve problems and collaborate with colleagues in technical services and access services to seamlessly provide electronic content to students, faculty and staff
  • Process digital acquisitions workflows, when needed
  • Participate in selection and evaluation of new digital content under the supervision of the Head of Collections, Discovery, and Systems
  • Monitor, upgrade, and maintain library systems including ILLiad, Ares, Alma, Summon, EZProxy, Springshare
  • Engage in web development projects

Other Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative exempt position. The position is located in Geneva, NY. This position description is not all-inclusive: other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.  Annual salary is $65,000.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • MLS or MLIS from an accredited program, or related graduate-level degree
  • At least one year experience in an academic library
  • Creativity, initiative, and innovation with systems, software, and integrations
  • Curiosity about issues and trends in library technology
  • Self-motivated, dependable, reliable, and comfortable with technology
  • Experience using an integrated library system, or other robust content management system
  • Familiarity with scholarly electronic resources
  • Some familiarity with CSS, HTML, and simple web design
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel
  • Eager to embrace new workflows and purposeful innovations
  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic library’s technical services or systems department
  • Experience with Ex Libris Alma
  • Experience with data analytics and data visualization
  • Experience with web design and/or basic programming or scripting
  • Experience with EZProxy
  • Experience with Springshare suite of products
  • Some familiarity with COUNTER 5 and SUSHI
  • Some familiarity with APIs and other external integrations (such as S/FTP)
  • Some familiarity with authentication protocols such as SAML or LDAP
