Department Head, Research and Learning Services, OSU Libraries, (Stillwater, OK)

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Library Operations, the Oklahoma State University Libraries seeks a dynamic Department Head to guide Research and Learning Services (RLS). RLS includes the areas of library teaching and learning, as well a scholarly services and research engagement.


This tenure track position, with an anticipated initial appointment at the rank of
Associate/Full Professor, offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of the library’s liaison, instruction, research/data support, and reference services programs.


The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team of library professionals (9 FTE) and foster relationships with other library and university departments. This collaborative approach will be instrumental in planning and delivering new initiatives, growing partnerships, and enhancing access to library services in response to the evolving university and higher education landscape. A strong emphasis on the mentorship of faculty librarians is integral to this role. In addition to leading the department, the successful candidate will also maintain their own areas of liaison responsibility.

Salary is a minimum $89,000 annually for a 12-month appointment.


Required qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in library and information science (MLS, MLIS) from an ALA- accredited program
  • Five years of professional experience in academic libraries, preferably as a
    liaison/subject specialist
  • Previous supervisory or management experience
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Experience with training, coaching, and mentorship of employees
  • A record of excellence regarding scholarly engagement, public services, and/or reference services
  • Demonstrated collegiality and the ability to foster a collaborative environment that is welcoming to all
  • A broad understanding of how libraries contribute to the research, teaching, and outreach mission of public and land-grant universities
  • Meeting university requirements in keeping with a tenure-track faculty position, including scholarly and creative activities, and service
