The Sue & Radcliffe Killam Library at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks a full-time Outreach & Assessment Librarian at the Assistant Librarian rank to begin Spring 2025. TAMIU is a growing university of over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bilingual and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. For more information, visit www.tamiu.edu.

This is a Assistant Librarian(non-tenure track, 3 year renewable position.

Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the Outreach & Assessment Librarian works with Library colleagues to strategically plan and coordinate the Library’s efforts to engage the campus community in a collaborative fashion, and to structure and communicate assessment for continuous improvement of Library services, collections, and space. This position will build relationships with students, faculty, academic and administrative units across campus, and community partners to raise awareness about the various ways Killam Library services and collections can serve as an essential partner in student support and elevation of TAMIU research and creative activities. 

Primary duties will include:

  • Providing strategic vision and leadership in coordinating Library outreach efforts;
  • Collaboratively leading the Library in the intentional and innovative design of coordinated programming to promote student and faculty learning and scholarship, community engagement, and active use of the Library’s resources, services, and space;
  • Cultivating relationships and collaborative partnerships with students, campus community, library colleagues, and community members and organizations to integrate the Library into initiatives related to student success, recruitment, and retention;
  • Facilitating and assisting in the design of assessment strategies and activities including needs assessments and iterative assessment for continuous improvement of Library services in collaboration with other Library units;
  • Collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to address University-wide and Library information needs and to determine effectiveness of Library initiatives, and creating data visualizations and reports to effectively communicate assessment results;
  • Publicizing and marketing library services, programs, and resources, including managing the Library’s social media outlets and leading the Marketing & Outreach team;
  • Serve as the library contact for University related assessment activities
  • Maintaining knowledge of, and engaging in, continuous professional development to keep up with trends and best practices in assessment and academic library outreach;
  • Serving as liaison to assigned academic departments for research and instruction support;
  • Participating in special projects and serving on departmental, university, and professional committees;
  • Participating in activities and service for professional development and to incorporate new ideas and best practices in outreach and assessment strategies in service to the campus and Library missions;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited institution. Candidates nearing degree completion will also be considered but must have earned the Master’s degree before appointment.
  • Evidence of professional librarian experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of applied qualitative and quantitative assessment methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and grow collaborative partnerships with campus and community groups.
  • Demonstrated potential for advancement in rank.

Preferred Qualifications:

We strongly encourage candidates who have:

  • a strong desire to serve first-generation students;
  • experience in an academic library setting;
  • two years of related experience;
  • Experience supervising student workers;
  • Experience developing multimedia library marketing campaigns;
  • Demonstrated experience generating increased engagement with Library services and collections
  • Demonstrated experience with assessment techniques and communications
