Lead Faculty, McKeown School of Education (Graduate Library Media Studies), (Salem, MA)

General Statement of Duties

The McKeown School of Education seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to be the Lead Faculty for the Graduate Library Media Studies licensure program. As a faculty member in the Secondary and Higher Education Department, the incumbent teaches in the program, serves as the Lead Faculty for curriculum, and is the advisor to the program’s students. The Library Media Studies Master’s in Education program meets the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirements for licensure and prepares individuals to become PK-12 library teachers and administrators across Massachusetts. The program is a fully ONLINE graduate program that has maintained strong enrollments. In addition to experience in public school libraries and media centers, we are seeking a faculty member with expertise in digital learning whose scholarly interests are concerned with improving resources, methods, and materials for digital and virtual curriculum and instruction.

Requirements

Duties include:

  • Providing curricular leadership and student advising for the graduate program in Library Media Studies
  • Teaching graduate courses
  • Providing university supervision of school library teacher candidates
  • Conducting student admission reviews, new student onboarding
  • Managing students’ plans of study
  • Assisting with recruitment
  • Working with the SHE department’s graduate chairperson to schedule classes in a sequenced manner
  • Collaborating with the McKeown School’s Office of Field Engagement, Supervision, and Licensure to support students’ eligibility for a Massachusetts Pk-12 Library Teacher license
  • Collaborating with McKeown colleagues and other campus partners (such as the Center for Teaching Innovation, The Berry Library, Information Technology, and Media Services) as they are developing, identifying and leading the integration of new instructional technologies that enhance access, strengthen curriculum and instruction, and expand the research process
  • Preparing reports for accrediting bodies and incorporating evolving standards into curriculum
  • Recruiting qualified new faculty, as needed
  • Serving the SHE department through curriculum development, program evaluation, and policy development

Incumbents are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching and other contributions to continuously improve the department and university.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university with a master’s degree or license in School Library, or a Master of Library & information science, or equivalent
  • Experience teaching in a Pk-12 school library setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multimedia instructional design principles that promote effective learning
  • Experience with a wide variety of general online research databases and catalogs, instructional technologies, and virtual reference services

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education or experience in instructional/educational technology design or equivalent
  • Experience and working knowledge of current educational technologies, online course management software, tutorial software, open-source technologies, and standards for creating accessible online learning content and objects with experience teaching in multiple modalities (face-to-face, hybrid or partially online, fully online, asynchronous or synchronous)
  • Experience advising students on their programmatic and academic needs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National School Library Standards
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts DESE library teacher practicum and licensure process, including holding or qualifying for an initial or professional Library Teacher license in Massachusetts, and experience supervising library teacher candidates in pre-practicum and practicum experiences.
  • Fluency or ability to communicate effectively in a language other than English
