SLIS Graduate Admission Fellow, Simmons University, (Boston, MA)

In-person position $25/hour

SLIS Graduate Admission Fellows are current School of Library and Information Science graduate students who work in-person in the Graduate Admission Office in a part-time capacity; 1-3 hours per week. They support SLIS admission efforts with their strong communication skills, commitment to customer service, and love for Simmons. Their main goal is to share their SLIS experiences with prospective and admitted students in a variety of ways directly supporting student recruitment. Students in dual-degree programs are encouraged to apply.

Strong candidates will have stellar public speaking skills, the ability to connect with students of various backgrounds and life experiences, and be self-starters who possess a can-do attitude and innate desire to continually bring improvement to the prospective and admitted student experience. Previous admission experience (i.e. serving as a campus tour guide or undergraduate student ambassador) is valued but not required. Other relevant experiences may include professional work or student employment in other areas of higher education, or customer-service roles. Fellows will be trained to support prospective and admitted students in a variety of ways, and will play a central role in establishing a positive student experience through some or all of the following responsibilities:

  • Providing personalized, engaging campus tours focused on SLIS programmatic highlights and facilities
  • Hosting students on campus for coffee, lunch, or a class visit
  • Calling students to answer their questions and encourage them to take the next steps in their admission process
  • Speaking as a panelist for in-person information sessions, typically during business hours as well as one or two Saturday mornings per semester
  • Writing hand-written notes to prospective and admitted students
  • Other projects that support student recruitment and marketing initiatives, including conducting research, gathering testimonial quotes from classmates, creating content for social media and other marketing assets etc.
