SLIS Graduate Admission Fellows are current School of Library and Information Science graduate students who work remotely for the Graduate Admission Office in a part-time capacity; approximately 1-3 hours per week. They support SLIS admission efforts with their strong communication skills, commitment to customer service, and love for Simmons. Their main goal is to share their SLIS experiences with prospective and admitted students in a variety of ways directly supporting student recruitment. Students in dual-degree programs are encouraged to apply.
Strong candidates will have the ability to connect with students of various backgrounds and life experiences, and be self-starters who possess a can-do attitude and innate desire to continually bring improvement to the prospective and admitted student experience. Previous admission experience (i.e. serving as a campus tour guide or undergraduate student ambassador) is valued but not required. Other relevant experiences may include professional work or student employment in other areas of higher education, or customer-service roles. Ambassadors will be trained to support prospective and admitted students in a variety of ways, and will play a central role in establishing a positive student experience through some or all of the following responsibilities:
- Speaking as a panelist for Zoom information sessions, typically one evening per month and during business hours
- Engaging with students 1:1 by email, Zoom, and live chat using the TruLeague platform
- Hosting Zoom sessions such as Admitted Student Coffee Hours, or “Ask a Current Student” drop-ins
- Other projects that support student recruitment and marketing initiatives, including conducting research, gathering testimonial quotes from classmates, etc.
