The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) Mentorship Program is now open for applications.
Main goals
- To encourage and guide Chinese or Chinese American or Chinese Canadian LIS students with career planning
- To help new Chinese American and Chinese Canadian librarians to develop their professional careers
- To recruit and provide a pool of experienced Chinese American and Chinese Canadian librarians as potential mentors
- To promote diversity in the profession and highlights the experiences and value of librarians of Chinese heritage
Requirements
- A valid CALA membership is required for all participants. More information can be found at http://cala-web.org/membership.
- Mentors must have a minimum of five-years of professional experience. Mentors may participate in multiple years and are welcome to reapply every year.
- Mentees may be students or early-career LIS professionals with less than five years of experience.
About the Program
The CALA Mentorship Committee recruits applicants from CALA membership and matches mentoring pairs based on participant goals and geographical location.
The program runs from October 14th, 2024 to May 31st, 2025. Participants may continue the arrangement independently after the program year ends.
Participants are expected to communicate regularly with their mentor/mentee throughout the program. Participants are recommended to communicate once a month.
The Committee will check in with participants multiple times during the year. At any time during the program year, participants may contact the Mentorship Committee for assistance.
