SLIS Jobline Your Source for Professional, Pre-Professional, and Internship Positions

Archives Intern, Shady Hill School, (Cambridge, MA)

Shady Hill School seeks an Archives Intern to continue the work of organizing our collection of documents, records and photographs, which span the School’s 109-year history.

A few years ago, Shady Hill brought in an archives consultant who surveyed our collection, de-accessioned extraneous items, drafted an archives policy, and produced a report of detailed next steps for storing the collection in a safer, more organized fashion.
We have since had two Simmons interns, who began implementing the prescribed next steps, approximately five hours per week. We seek a new intern this fall/winter, to continue this terrific progress. The intern may select their own work hours, within the regular M-F work day. The position comes with a stipend of $1,000.

Lunch is provided.

The project is under the guidance of Shady Hill’s Director of Development and Alumni Relations and the Director of Marketing and Communications, who will be available for periodic check-in meetings, but neither has professional archiving background. For more information about our school, visit www.shs.org.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Read all reports and policies drafted by the consultant Shady Hill retained last spring. Execute the next steps as outlined in the report, related to materials storage and labeling. Refer to notes created by our last intern (still a Simmons master’s student) to ascertain where she left off and what should be done next. Keep ongoing notes as you go.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a Masters-level program in library science, archival studies or related program
  • Ability to work independently
  • Creative problem-solving skills, curiosity and motivation
