Adult and Youth Services Support Librarian, Hanson Public Library (Hanson, MA)

The Hanson Public Library is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to fill the role of Adult and Youth Services Support Librarian. This position is responsible for providing services to patrons of all ages, but with a greater focus on youth. Individuals will have flexibility in developing programs and services to meet community needs, and will work collaboratively with the Adult Services and Youth Services Librarians and the Library Director on managing overall delivery of library services to the public. The successful candidate possesses excellent customer service skills, planning and organizational skills, and written and oral communication skills; can engage with children and teens in a friendly manner; demonstrates independent judgment, initiative and decision-making; and is adept at using a variety of technologies..
Primary responsibilities include:
● Plans and implements programs and services that respond to the educational and recreational needs of children, teens, and adults
● Develops and participates in public relations and publicity efforts for Library activities and services
● Collaborates with the Library Foundation and Friends, and conducts outreach to establish partnerships with community groups, town departments, schools, and local businesses
● Selects, purchases, and withdraws materials
● Answers reference questions from people of all ages
● Assists library users with selecting reading materials and using print and online resources, computers and mobile devices, programs and apps, and a wide variety of technologies

34 hours/week with benefits
Includes evening and Saturday hours
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program, or any combination of related education and experience
Recent MLS graduates, students currently enrolled in an MLS program, and potential MLS program candidates are encouraged to apply
1-3 years experience in library services, preferably in a public library
Experience working with children, preferably in a learning or educational setting
Excellent customer service skills
Proficiency with computers and other technology
Salary Range
$29.88 – $39.19 per hour with MLS
$27.16 – $35.63 per hour without MLS
Union Grade IV. Salary range in 12 steps.
