Job Description

If you are a student-centered, service-oriented librarian, we encourage you to join the University of Southern Maine Libraries at our Gorham Campus Learning Commons. We are currently accepting applications for the role of Coordinator of the Gorham Learning Commons.

As one of USM’s three university libraries, the Learning Commons serves our residential and athletics students in Gorham along with academic programs taught at the Gorham Campus. The Gorham Learning Commons is a combined service model delivering library and research services, academic support (including peer tutoring and peer support) and serves as the Gorham Campus computer lab.  The position works closely with library staff at the other campuses and the staff providing academic support. The position is highly student-centered and will be responsible for Gorham Campus partnerships between the Learning Commons and other areas of service on the Gorham campus, such as Advising Services and Residential Life.

The Coordinator of the Gorham Learning Commons leads, organizes, oversees, and assesses the services, collections, and activities of the Gorham Learning Commons, a key library and academic support service to our residential campus. This includes reference and research assistance, circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, tutoring services, computer support, and stack maintenance. The Coordinator serves as a key member of the Learning Support Services team, providing insight and recommendations for continuous improvement. This position works closely with the Dean of Libraries and Learning, Library Administration, Coordinator of Access Services and Technology Support, the Research & Instruction Services team, Director of Academic Retention Initiatives, Associate Director of Learning Support Programs, and LAC Library staff to ensure collaboration and consistency regarding Learning Commons and Library objectives, procedures, and service standards. The Coordinator is the lead library representative and responsible for library public services and outreach on the Gorham Campus. The Coordinator trains, supervises, and evaluates Gorham Library employees and oversees the supervision of all student assistants and volunteers.

This is a full-time position that will pay an annual salary up to $55,000 commensurate with experience.

This position is primarily located on the Gorham Campus with the expectation of collaborating and working with the Portland and Lewiston-Auburn campuses.
