Work Schedule: Monday-Friday between 8am and 6pm; some evenings and weekends may be required

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for services at the Knowledge Commons desk, from which we support technology throughout the library, patron devices and remote services, library research, equipment checkout, and classroom support. Other duties include providing direct patron service, supporting campus services, and making referrals. This position also supports Protospace operations on Level 2 including 3D printing, multimedia, and virtual reality, and may perform back up supervisory duties in absence of other full time supervisory staff. Hours are primarily Monday through Friday from 10am-6pm. This is a term-limited position with an expected end date of June 30, 2027. Financial support for this position is contingent upon continued funding and may be terminated after three years.

his position is required to work on campus full-time. Telecommuting will only be authorized for occasional/exceptional circumstances.

Provide technology and reference assistance:

  • Provide computing assistance at Knowledge Commons (KC) to support students’ curricular, research and project needs. This may include working with KC and University Information Technology (UIT) to provide basic computer OS support and network assistance (wireless connection issues, Duo, passwords, VPN configuration, email configuration, printing assistance, use of laptops and mobile devices, etc.).
  • Provide basic to advanced software support (Office Suite applications, graphic design, scanning, basic video editing, etc.).
  • Provide directional information and assist patrons in using resources including Usearch and other library databases. Helps patrons locate library resources online and in physical collections as well as making effective patron referrals to other library personnel as needed.

Act as backup supervisor when needed and perform following duties:

  • Assist with hiring and onboarding new student employees.
  • Supervise staff on shifts and provide ongoing training related to technology, reference, policies, and procedures.
  • Address staff and service issues

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in a computer related field and two years of experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated computer skills, human relations and effective communication skills are required.

Preferences:

Experience with customer service and working in a team environment, preferably in a technology and/or academic environment. Experience with Windows and Mac operating systems, basic hardware, various software applications, and troubleshooting technical issues. Approachable with excellent communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and other library users. Supervisory experience. Good organization skills and ability to learn new systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate technology services:
  • Report on service usage and stats.
  • Maintain equipment collection.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment and/or filing reports through the e-ticket system.
  • Develop and follow the cleaning and maintenance schedules to ensure that the Knowledge Commons is ready for patrons.
  • Respond to relevant maintenance and circulation tickets.
  • Manage unstaffed Union and Benchmark computer labs.
  • Assist students with 3D printing, VR, multimedia and other Protospace services.
  • Coordination and outreach:
  • Serve on various committees in the library to represent SCS and the Knowledge Commons inside and outside the library.
  • Coordinate services with other departments.
  • Coordinates with LOPS on safety and emergency procedures

This is a local recruitment. Out of area candidates will be responsible for travel costs for final in-person interviews and for moving costs, if selected. The candidate will also need to be available to travel to Utah within 5-7 days of notice.
