Specific Duties:

Excellent opportunity to contribute to ongoing public services activities that support a special collections department. Assist staff with collection digitization requests and stacks management projects, including shelf reads and labelling. Provide support for the daily retrieval and re-shelving of collections used by researchers. May support public services team projects, perform routine clerical tasks, and complete other duties as assigned. May also occasionally staff the Reading Room, serving as the public face of Baker Library Special Collections & Archives, assisting users, answering questions, and ensuring the safety and security of collections.

Available immediately, this is a 14 hour per week, temporary position available for up to 3 months, with the possibility of extension. Hours must be completed over 2 full days Monday through Thursday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. This role is in-person, on-site, at Harvard Business School’s Baker Library.

Requirements:

Strong attention to detail. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to multi-task and to complete work in a timely manner. Sensitivity to proper care and handling of special collections materials. Previous library experience or current library and information science students preferred.

Overview:

Baker Library Special Collections & Archives collects rare and unique materials that focus on the evolution of business and industry. The collections span eight centuries beginning in the late 1300s to the present day and include corporate archives, manuscripts, account ledgers, rare books, broadsides, photographs, films, electronic records, and company annual reports. The extensive holdings of the Harvard Business School Archives include the records of the School from its founding in 1908 to the present day. These rich and varied collections support research in a remarkably diverse range of fields such as business, economic, social, and cultural history as well as the history of science and technology. 

Baker Library Special Collections & Archives provides access to these materials in the de Gaspé Beaubien Reading Room in Baker Library | Bloomberg Center.
