GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Henry Whittemore Library seeks a motivated, student-centered, User Services and Instruction Librarian. Under the direction of the Dean of the Library and informed by the University’s strategic priorities, the User Services and Instruction Librarian is a member of the Research and Learning Department. The librarian manages, assesses, and trains staff on the online resources that support research, resource discovery, and information literacy. The candidate will tailor web design, research, and learning technologies to the unique and evolving research needs of the Framingham State University’s diverse community. The User Services and Instruction Librarian provides information literacy instruction and research assistance to both students and faculty.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The User Services Librarian will report to the Library Dean. The librarian will be a member of the Research and Learning Department
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as the administrator for Springshare products including the CMS website, LibAnswers and LibGuides.
- Collaborates with librarians and staff on a coherent user experience for web-based library resources and services.
- Coordinates assessment of the website and other digital systems, including testing interfaces for usability and effectiveness through user testing, surveys, and focus groups.
- Provides technical support and training to staff who produce web content.
- Teaches information literacy instruction aligned with ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education to students, particularly first year students in Rams101, Composition I and Composition II courses.
- Supports students online in the LMS course environment through the Embedded Librarian Program, and through the Ask-A-Librarian online chat consultations.
- Coordinates and participate in the staffing rotation of the Research and Learning help desk and chat service.
- Stays current on pedagogical, technological, and universal design best practices, particularly for the instruction of first year students.
- Participates in the Research and Learning workshop series.
- Develops online research guides through the Libguides platform.
- Serve as a library liaison to the academic college in coordination with the other librarians.
- Participates in library and university governance committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- An ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library information science.
- At least two years of relevant professional library experience assisting patrons with research and teaching information literacy classes in an academic library.
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues, trends, and technologies related to academic research, and information literacy instruction.
- Experience in searching academic library research databases.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a department.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Appreciation of the importance of equity, inclusion, and diversity in the workplace.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) bargaining unit at a librarian rank commensurate with experience and credentials. Salary commensurate with experience in accordance with Appendix O of the MSCA contract.
