Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Henry Whittemore Library seeks a part-time reference librarian. The part-time Reference Librarian assists library users at the Research and Learning helpdesk, the Circulation Desk, and by phone, email, and chat. This is a part-time non-benefited, contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The pay rate is $20.00 per hour.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides reference and research assistance in person, and by phone, email, chat, or online communication for two five-hour shifts
Maintains statistics for all reference services provided
Gathers data to assess reference statistics
Support library instruction and research workshops
Supports the Access Services department by serving as the supervisor for the main desk on Saturdays for a five-hour shift
Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution of higher education, or currently enrolled in an accredited Library School
Experience working in a library
Ability to work with diverse constituencies
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to work flexibly, collaboratively, and collegially in a dynamic workplace.
Experience working with online resources such as online databases, Libguides, and Microsoft Office

Additional Information:

This is a part-time non-benefited, contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The pay rate is $20.00 per hour.
