Library Archives Assistant (part-time), Whittemore Library, (Framingham, MA)

Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The part-time archives assistant works under the direction of the university Archivist and Special Collections Librarian to provide support to the archives by assessing, accessioning, organizing, and processing existing and incoming collections. The Archives Assistant will assist with the re-housing and reorganization of the University Special and Archival Collections. This is a part-time (15 hours/week), non-benefited, contract position with an hourly rate of $20.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The archives assistant will report to the Archivist and Special Collections Librarian.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with the arrangement and description of unprocessed archival collections
  • Prepares and updates current and new finding aids utilizing DACS and EAD
  • Creates preliminary inventory and container lists of new and existing collections
  • Performs tasks such as data entry, filing, scanning as it relates to the archives
  • Able to analyze and identify archival materials having sensitive content that may require restrictions or transfers to proper departments
  • Works on other projects under the direction of the Archivist and Special Collections Librarian


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MLS/MLIS or candidate from an ALA-accredited institution, with a concentration in Archives, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of archival theory and practice, including experience processing archival records
  • Knowledge of relevant standards such as DACS and EAD
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to plan, coordinate and implement complex projects


Additional Information:

This is a part-time non-benefited, contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The pay rate is $20 per hour.
