Library Assistant, Fenway High School Library, (Boston, MA)

Role: The Library Assistant manages the school library during the transition to and during the after school period, which means everything from helping with homework, to managing the volume of the room, to troubleshooting computer issues. This is a perfect opportunity for current MLIS students interested in any branch of libraries since in a school library you do a little bit of every type of work (we even have an archive that needs to be maintained!).
Responsibilities Include:
- Staffing the library when the teacher-librarian is not present
- Assisting students/staff with readers advisory and finding materials
- Assisting students with database/technology questions
- Managing the circulation of books and other materials
- Shelving books
- Creating displays
- Keeping the library clean and orderly
- And other duties that might be of interest to the assistant or needed by the library
Qualifications:
- Desire to work with teens and willing to interact with them
- Passion for reading/talking about books, bonus for YA literature knowledge
- Ability to be part of a team
Pay: $18 per hour
Hours: 8 hours per week, Tues 2-5pm; Fri 1-3pm; and one additional 2pm-5pm shift TBD between whoever is hired and school needs. This is a school year position from September until the end of May, following the school calendar.
Start Date: Ideally the week of September 9, or as soon as possible after that
About our School: This is a bustling library at a 9-12 high school in Mission Hill, serving a diverse population of students and staff. The library is a short walk from the Roxbury Crossing stop on the Orange Line, a 15 minute walk from the Simmons campus, and also has bus access.
