Access Services & Community Engagement Librarian, Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH), (Mount Hermon, MA)

Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) seeks a full-time Access Services & Community Engagement Librarian to provide essential direct and indirect support to library users, including students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. The librarian is also responsible for working with the library director to implement and apply library programs and policies, collection development initiatives, and provides instruction in information literacy including research skills and media literacy. This position will serve as the library coordinator for the NMH Summer School program from mid-June until the beginning of August. Summer responsibilities include leading and overseeing all aspects of the school’s library and reporting to the Assistant Director of Summer School.

A Day in the Life:

This individual plays a crucial role in overseeing circulation functions, such as handling holds, overdue items, and billing while ensuring efficient shelving. Coordinating interlibrary loan services and managing the library’s collection of technology equipment—conducting inventories and recommending new purchases—are key responsibilities. As the daytime Circ Desk point person, they address various patron needs and supervise approximately 20 work-study students. They also manage printers and the print area, collaborating with IT and Canon for any technical issues and keeping supplies stocked. During summer sessions, they take on building operations tasks, liaising with Plant and Properties for maintenance. This person  provides research, citation, and technology assistance, develops collections, and collaborates with academic departments to enhance information literacy. Additionally, they plan book displays, coordinate digital signage, and maintain the library’s social media presence, while also organizing programming and promoting library services to the school community.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 2- 3 years of experience in library operations.
  • Master’s degree in library science from ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Experience as an academic instructor.
  • The ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and to build highly effective and collaborative teams.
  • Documented experience in the area of DEI.
  • Ability to promote innovative programming.
  • Believes in the importance of the freedom to read and actively seeks to promote diverse resources.
  • Ability to learn and use various technologies including social media.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with secondary school students is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in library services.
  • Familiarity with technology trends impacting an academic setting.

This is an in-office position.Pay: 27.50/hour
This is a year round full time position
