Teen Librarian, Mansfield Public Library (Mansfield, MA)

The Teen Services Librarian works under the direct supervision of the Head of Reference to provide
excellent library service to teens. They are responsible for connecting teen library patrons with
information and developing and implementing engaging library programs and services. This position
includes maintaining the library’s Teen Space, planning and implementing teen programs, collection
development, supporting local school curriculum, providing reference and circulation services and
assisting patrons with technology.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans, organizes, directs, and implements programs and activities for teens at the library.
Provides reference and reader advisory services for teens, children and adults.
Provides coverage at the Youth Services desk.
Aides in selecting materials for the YA collection and Youth Room using appropriate review sources.
Assists with collection maintenance including withdrawing books, mending items, and upkeep of series sections.
Provides professional services by assisting patrons with information retrieval, location of materials, use of computers and databases.
As directed assists with publicity, social media, and the library newsletter.
Keeps informed of current trends and developments affecting libraries and particularly in young adult and children’s librarianship.
Assists, as needed, in the performance of all procedures relating to library services and library organization.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school. A concentration in Youth Services is
preferred. Those currently pursuing an MLS degree will be considered.
A minimum of two years’ library experience. Other comparable experience will be considered.

$27.92 / hour
Salary Notes
18 hours per week including 1 night and 1 Saturday per month. Salary is on a 10 step schedule.
