Cataloger, Robert S. Peabody Institute of Archaeology, (Andover, MA)

Description:

The Robert S. Peabody Institute of Archaeology’s library is a non-lending library and a department of Phillips Academy. Our library is used by Phillips Academy students and faculty as well as researchers and the public.

The Robert S. Peabody Institute of Archaeology is seeking a library professional to help with a backlog of books needing cataloging in the Noble Library system and address some existing cataloging inconsistencies.

The Peabody Institute library contains over 9,000 volumes and is primarily composed of bound journals, bulletins, and historical publications on anthropology or archaeology.  While most of the collection has been cataloged into the Phillips Academy system, a recent inventory identified several cataloging issues that need to be addressed. This includes –

  • Cataloging new acquisitions
  • Addressing cataloging inconsistencies of journals within bound volumes
  • Cataloging historical volumes including American Antiquarian, Bureau of American Ethnology Bulletins, and bound pamphlets from several regional archaeological societies
  • Update the catalog to reflect missing or removed items from the collection

The schedule is flexible for 10-20 hours per week with a weekly schedule determined with the final candidate.
