Reporting to the Resource Services Manager, the Digital Resources Technician is a key contributor working across library units to support digital collections. This position assists with asset and metadata management, platform functionality, maintenance, and troubleshooting; helps with general resource services work; and trains and supervises student employees.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in digital library systems and services including digital asset production, description, access, and preservation; experience training and supervising student employees; and the ability to work creatively, independently, and collaboratively while contributing to a positive and professional work environment and diverse campus community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the creation of descriptive, technical, structural, and administrative metadata, and the ingestion of digital objects into the University Libraries digital collections systems
  • Follow UL guidelines for digitization projects, collection processing, and overall digital library management
  • Utilize UL collections policies for the preservation of born-digital, digitized, and other digital content across UL digital collections systems
  • Act as a service contact for equipment, tools, and software for the maintenance of digital collections
  • Maintain administrative account information for digital collections vendors
  • Serve as the digital collection’s representative as a member of the Library Systems Team
  • In conjunction with the Resource Services unit, creates and maintains procedural documentation for digitization operations, output, projects, and processes
  • Complete special project work as assigned including record enhancement, clean up, or reclassification
  • Train and supervise student employees
  • Participate in University Libraries committees, teams, and working groups
  • Participate in annual reporting by collecting and sharing statistical and other data as instructed
  • Participate in professional development to maintain knowledge of relevant library standards, best practices, and technologies
  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four years of library-clerical work including two years of advanced library clerical work comparable to the Library Assistant II, and graduation from high school OR 
  • Two years of advanced library clerical work, and an associate degree or equivalent training with major course work in library science OR 
  • Bachelor’s degree 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of library techniques, procedures, and working tools used in accessing, cataloging, circulating; and maintaining library materials
  • Skill in the application of the techniques and procedures used in cataloging
  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in bibliography preparation and the use of library research materials
  • Ability to apply library methods and principles in circulation and providing reader services
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other library personnel and the public
  • Knowledge of reader comprehension and interest levels of library patrons

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in digital asset management software such as CONTENTdm and Digital Commons
  • Demonstrated experience in digital asset metadata management and taxonomy using standards such as DACS, EAD, MARC, LCSH, and Dublin Core
  • Experience and technical proficiency as a service contact for digital collections equipment and tools 
  • Knowledge of digital collections policies, safe handling, and preservation in line with FADGI digitization guidelines
  • Experience supervising and training student employees
