The Business Development Research (BDR) intern will work closely with and under the guidance of the
Marketing & Business Development’s team of information professionals to provide legal and business research for the firm. The intern will report to a BDR Specialist and will be trained on the team’s approach to searching legal research databases as well as its framework for describing and organizing research results. This role is largely dedicated to searching for expert witness documents and capturing research findings for both immediate and future use. The intern will also assist with ad hoc business development and marketing research projects.
The intern will have the opportunity to attend our bi-weekly BDR team meetings and to work with individual team members as they conduct a variety of legal, corporate, and business development-related research. This internship provides a unique opportunity to observe firsthand how research can help direct and further business development initiatives.
Key responsibilities for this position will include:
- Searching for and reviewing expert witness reports, testimony, and related court filings using legal
research databases such as Lexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law. - Assisting with data population and maintenance of team databases.
- Providing marketing-related case, company, and competitor research using a wide variety of internal and external tools and resources.
- Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree, or demonstrated interest, in library science and/or legal research preferred.
- Ability to organize, plan and work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and be flexible in order to respond to shifting demands.
- Desire to learn, participate, and take ownership for workload.
- Strong research, analytical, and written communication skills.
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability are critical.
- Familiarity navigating databases, including using metadata fields and advanced text searches.
- Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, CRM systems, and experience management systems is a plus.
