ARCHIVIST, Winthrop Group, (Winston-Salem, NC)

The Winthrop Group is currently hiring for a full-time Archivist for a 12-month project in a business archives to support a company’s milestone anniversary. The Archivist will process prioritized records, respond to reference requests from project stakeholders, and support other anniversary initiatives. This salaried position is targeted to begin in June 2024, with work taking place in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at an off-site storage facility and at the company’s headquarters.
A Winthrop Lead Archivist also working full-time on this project will provide oversight and mentorship. The Archivist will be required to pass a background screening and sign the company’s non-disclosure agreement. Depending upon project factors, a 6-month contract extension may be possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Survey archival collections and create a robust inventory for use by stakeholders
- Develop processing plan for prioritized archival materials that support anniversary-related initiatives
- Arrange, rehouse, and describe archival materials in accord with professional best practices and local guidelines and procedures
- Identify archival records for potential digitization
- Flag sensitive or confidential records and apply access restrictions according to established policies
- Support digitization by third-party vendor, including preparing materials to send out, conducting quality control of digitized files, and returning physical assets to their original location post-digitization
- Conduct research and respond to reference requests from project stakeholders
- Provide regular updates to designated project liaison
- Work collaboratively with project stakeholders and Winthrop colleagues
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent accredited degree with formal training in archival theory and practice
- Minimum of 2 years of full-time work in an archives
- Demonstrated archival processing experience and application of archival standards and best practices
- Ability to manage time effectively, problem solve, and balance multiple priorities
- Unwavering commitment to client privacy and confidentiality
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience working with confidential records
- Familiarity with basic preservation and conservation standards for archival materials
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds
Preferred Skills
- Experience in business archives or working with corporate records
- Knowledge of and interest in the history of Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Compensation
Salary range: $50,000 – $56,000 commensurate with experience and including a strong benefits package (health, dental, and vision) and life insurance. All full-time Winthrop employees receive paid time off and annual funds for professional development.
