Statement of Duties:
Information Services Desk duties include assisting patrons with Library resources and using
basic technology, and answering both basic and more in-depth reference questions. Helps the
Assistant Director to conduct Basic Technology classes. Performs one-on-one tech help
sessions as requested by patrons. This position will assist with cataloging materials, including
copy cataloging, stickering, and labeling. May assist with processing delivery as needed.
Contributes to material selection and collection maintenance under the supervision of the
Director and/or Assistant Director. Circulation Desk duties will be required as needed.
This is a part-time, non-benefited position with a maximum of 19 hours per week; working days
are to be determined.
Supervision:
Works under broad supervision using established procedures and instruction from the Director
and Assistant Director. Regularly works on the Information Services Desk and may perform
assigned tasks under supervision of Assistant Director. May work other service desks as
needed. Occasionally, may work unsupervised and be expected to solve problems and serve
library users independently. Refers any issues and problems to the Assistant Director and/or
Director.
Job Environment:
● Work is performed collaboratively as part of an energetic and creative team.
● Information Services Desk, and Circulation Desk duties are performed in a public service
area that is usually very active with frequent interruptions.
● The incumbent has frequent contact with the public for the purpose of answering
questions at the Information Services Desk, and via telephone and email.
● Daily work is performed with computers, printers, fax machines, copiers, telephone, and
other standard office equipment.
● This is a public-facing position and requires appropriate business-casual attire.
Essential Functions:
● Uses Library automated circulation system to circulate materials to library users
including checking materials in and out, processing reserves/holds, registering
borrowers, and collecting fees.
● Serves all library users at a public services desk and answers reference and technology
questions, or refers patrons to staff who are able to assist them.
● Deals tactfully and courteously with the public.
● Assists the public in the use of technology, with ability to perform in-depth
troubleshooting.
● Performs One-on-One Tech Help sessions as requested by Patrons.
● Assist with cataloging materials, including copy cataloging, stickering, and labeling.
● Assists with processing delivery as needed.
● Contributes to material selection and collection maintenance under the supervision of
Director and/or Assistant Director.
● Circulation Desk Duties will be required as needed.
● Assists with opening and closing procedures as needed.
● Performs other related duties as required.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
● Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
● Excellent internet and computer skills.
● Proficiency and comfort using a computer and office equipment. (scanners, printers, etc.)
● Previous Library experience preferred.
● Bilingual abilities are a plus.
● Experience working with diverse, multicultural populations.
● Ability to perform multiple tasks and responsibilities within established timeframes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Must enjoy working with the public and thrive on creating healthy interpersonal
connections.
● Must have the ability to work well in a team environment with excellent communication
skills.
● Ability to make minor decisions in accordance with library policies and procedures.
● Previous Library user experience and experience with our network catalog preferred.
● Proven public service skills and ability and desire to work effectively with patrons of
diverse backgrounds with a wide variety of needs and abilities.
