The Town of Lancaster is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, team player to serve as the Town’s first Special Collections and Archives Librarian [SCA Librarian]. Under the general supervision of the Library Director, the SCA Librarian is responsible for the efficient and careful safeguarding of all Library collections under their supervision including, but not limited to historical artifacts, rare books, documents, 2D and 3D objects and the contents of the Town’s Museum. The SCA Librarian is responsible for managing, cataloging, and archiving all media collections under their care. The SCA Librarian is also responsible for educating staff on special and archival collections and working with members of the Historical Commission regarding their mission and goals as outlined through Massachusetts General Law and in the Town Code. As the Museum’s Director, the SCA Librarian is tasked with creating innovative and unique programming which links Lancaster residents of all ages to the Library’s special and archive collections and historical inventory and artifacts. The SCA Librarian is responsible for maintaining and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control. Work is performed inside and outside of the Library’s envelope and may involve visiting schools, neighboring communities or other local groups, and community’s historical commissions.
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Administration, Art History, Archives Management, or related field required; Master’s degree in Library Studies or Museum Management or similar subject preferred. Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in a comparable position with special focus working with special and archive collections or museum curation. Full- time experience preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience shall be considered. Must possess a valid MA Drivers’ License free of infractions.
Salary & Benefits: Lancaster offers a competitive wage and benefits package; full salary range for the position is $62,577 to $79,344. Starting salary projected between $62,577 – $66,753 DOQE.
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9-5; Wednesday, 12-8, one Saturday per month. The schedule is flexible to accommodate the staffing needs of the Library.
