Children’s Librarian, Elizabeth Taber Library, (Marion, MA)

The Elizabeth Taber Library is seeking a full time Children’s Librarian to provide direct services to the children and families of our community. The ideal candidate is motivated, independent acting, creative, and enthusiastic about providing children’s services.

The Elizabeth Taber Library is a small, historic yet modern library in the quaint seaside community of Marion, MA (pop. 5,347.) We are dedicated to creating a welcoming space to encourage exploration, education, and entertainment for patrons of all ages.

The responsibilities of the Children’s Librarian includes collection development, planning and leading children’s programming activities including year round story times, promoting activities and communicating with press regarding children’s events, organizing a robust summer reading program schedule, grant writing, evaluating and updating department practices and procedures, performing outreach to area schools, homeschooled families, and other local organizations, providing assistance to children, young adults, and families in the use of all library resources and services, updating the library website and social media pages regarding children’s department activities, and performing general circulation activities.

The Children’s Librarian is expected to maintain knowledge of library technology and programming developments through continuing professional development and education. Candidates must be committed to providing high level of public service and maintaining a friendly, engaging, welcoming, and safe atmosphere for all patrons, with a desire to create long lasting community connections with the families of Marion.

Qualifications include:

  • M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library school, with coursework in children’s services strongly preferred,
    relevant experience is considered an acceptable alternative.
    — one year of experience providing direct services to children in a public library or related environment
    strongly preferred
    $25 an hour with health and retirement benefits offered through the town of Marion

Schedule includes:
Full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, occasional evening and weekend hours to facilitate programing or as our schedule demands
