General Statement
The Part-Time Reference and Instruction Librarian provides reference services and instruction to students, faculty and staff online and at both the downtown healthcare library as well as the Alden Library on the West Boylston campus.

$32.00 per hour.  Hours varies. No benefits apply. Approximately 22 hours per week, Monday – Friday, July 1- December 20, 2024.  Possibility of other additional shifts Monday – Saturday as a substitute for other librarians as needed.

Supervision Received:

Reports to the Dean for Library and Academic Support Services or designee.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Staffs the reference desk and answers questions in person or via phone, email or chat.
  • Leads library instruction sessions either face-to-face or via zoom or Blackboard Collaborate.
  • Prepares course-specific materials to support students’ research needs.
  • Keeps reference and instruction statistics as needed.
  • Assists users in use of equipment, facilities and resources.
  • Assists full-time librarians on special projects in support of the services of the library
  • Actively support the teaching and learning process; practicing honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.
  • Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork. Respect the function of dissent in an academic institution while advancing a collegial atmosphere of campus collaboration.
  • Embrace the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness and support the equal rights of all people by advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences including age, race, gender, ability, religious convictions, socio-economic status, ethnic heritage, and sexual orientation.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Library Science from an American Library Association Accredited Library/Information Science program or within 9 credits of completing the Master’s.
  • Experience in teaching library orientation and information literacy sessions or coursework in user instruction.
  • Experience providing reference service using print and electronic resources.
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a Community College library
  • Experience creating Libguides or other multimedia reference resources.
  • Experience with chat reference
  • Experience providing reference and instruction for distance education.
