Assistant Director, Wellesley Free Library, Wellesley, MA

The Wellesley Free Library seeks its next Assistant Director – a strong communicator who is well-versed in municipal government and is a fearless, flexible and fun team leader. In addition to being outgoing, confident, perceptive, strategic and politically savvy, this position requires a high level of emotional intelligence and attention to detail. The Assistant Director forms productive relationships and partnerships with community leaders, patrons, supporting organizations, performers, and libraries in Massachusetts. The Assistant Director supports the Director to transform big ideas into strategic results-driven initiatives; recruit, develop, and motivate an outstanding staff; promote inclusion and diversity; and effectively communicate the Library’s mission, goals, and objectives to the broader Wellesley community.
The work schedule is typically M-F and may include evenings or weekends, as needed.
The Town of Wellesley is an active, supportive, and well-educated community located 15 miles west of Boston, MA. In fiscal year 2023, the Main Library and two branches served 297,839 visitors. 36,026 questions were answered, 629,713 items circulated and 1,025 programs were held with 21,273 attendees. The Library maintains a collection of over 200,000 physical items and over 97,000 e-materials. Currently, the Library has a staff of over 60 people, totaling 37.7 FTE.
QUALIFICATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED:
The requirements are: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public library operations, including supervisory experience. Please see the job description for additional requirements.
The full FY25 salary range is $76,894 – $116, 802 with an excellent benefit package.
