Special Projects Cataloger (Full-Time), Boston Public Library, MA

Description:

The Boston Public Library (BPL) seeks a Special Projects Cataloger to lead new and retrospective cataloging projects here at BPL. The incumbent will develop internal workflows and standards, develop and implement project goals and objectives, review work of staff assigned to projects, and maintain project statistics as directed. This person will also contribute original and complex copy cataloging for materials in all formats for the Library’s special and retrospective projects.

BPL has a rich collection of uncataloged and undercataloged material, much of which is coming to light as part of a concerted effort to catalog the Library’s oldest material in our Founding Research Collection, spanning five centuries and containing more than 500,000 volumes, thousands of which date from before 1820. The Special Projects Cataloger will be an integral part of our Founding Research Collection project, as well as interface with colleagues across the Library to think creatively and to wrangle metadata into workable catalog records for other special projects on the horizon. Our Cataloging and Processing department is growing and we are equipping ourselves with new skills and fresh perspectives. Come work with us in Boston and be a part of our team!

This is a regular, full-time union position located at Boston Public Library’s Copley (Central) Branch. The salary minimum is 69,941.04, and the maximum is 91,224.85. Please note that the incumbent must be a resident of the City of Boston upon the first day of hire.
