SUMMARY
The Newburgh Free Library is looking for a Full Time Marketing and Communications Library Assistant. The ideal candidate will have experience creating web content, using social media, and the ability to work quickly and consistently in broadcasting the Library’s message to multiple communities.
The Newburgh Free Library is a mid-sized urban library serving the people of the City of Newburgh, the Town of Newburgh, and the Town of New Windsor. The Main Library in the City of Newburgh has beautiful views, sitting atop a hill overlooking the Hudson River. A Town of Newburgh Branch location is scheduled to open in 2024 With over 60 staff members, 2 locations, and a service area of approximately 60,000 people, the Newburgh Free Library is a bustling place. This Full Time Library Assistant reports to the Head of Programs, Marketing, and Communications but will have significant room to work independently. This title is a union position, 35 hours a week, requiring one night a week and one Saturday a month.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the Head of Programs, Marketing, and Communications to ensure consistency in both the look and messaging of all Library communications
  • Assist the Department Head with all marketing and communications needs
  • Work with Library staff from all departments to keep the Library’s website up-to-date
  • Assist the Department Head with the management of the Library’s social media presence
  • Design promotional materials for both online and print platforms
  • Contribute to the writing and editing of press releases
  • Assist with the photo documentation of events and programs to be used in publicity
  • Work collaboratively with all Library departments to ensure programs, services, and collections are effectively marketed
  • Assist Department Head with creation and distribution of the Library newsletter
  • Work to create in-house promotions, including flyers, digital kiosks, and signage
  • Assist with data collection and surveys to enhance the Library’s marketing campaigns
  • May represent the library at meetings or events in and around the Newburgh community
  • OTHER DUTIES
  • Work regular shifts at all service points
  • Provide reference triage at all service points
  • Work as part of a team to ensure all patrons needs are met in a timely and courteous manner
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES
  • Knowledge of contemporary technology trends
  • Familiarity with WordPress, popular social media platforms, and image editing software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends
  • Accuracy, time management, organizational skills and attention to detail are priorities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary range: $41,024 – $56,482 depending on experience. Health insurance, vision, dental, and participation in the New York State Retirement System. Employees receive generous vacation, sick leave, and flex days.
