HEAD OF PROGRAMS, MARKETING, AND COMMUNICATION. LIBRARIAN II. NEWBURGH FREE LIBRARY
SUMMARY
The Newburgh Free Library seeks an exceptional librarian who can think creatively about library programming, stay organized in developing and managing programs, and bring a consistent voice and identity to the Library’s marketing and communications efforts. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, good communicator, and strong supervisor. The Newburgh Free Library is a mid-sized urban library serving the people of the City of Newburgh, the Town of Newburgh, and the Town of New Windsor. The Main Library in the City of Newburgh has beautiful views, sitting atop a hill overlooking the Hudson River. A Town of Newburgh Branch location is scheduled to open in 2024 with over 60 staff members, 2 locations, and a service area of approximately 60,000 people, the Newburgh Free Library is a bustling place. The Head of Programs, Marketing, and Communications reports to the Head of Adult Services and supervises 1 FT Library Assistant and 1 PT Library Assistant. This Librarian II title is a union position, 35 hours a week, requiring one night a week and one Saturday a month.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan, schedule, and promote all Adult programs at both Library locations.
  • Work across departments to help plan and promote other Library programs.
  • Oversee all aspects of library marketing and is responsible for maintaining brand consistency and standards.
  • Provide oversight of all library communications to ensure uniformity of messaging
  • Work to create and implement a library style guide.
  • Manage website content and work with third-party vendors to update content as needed
  • Oversee and maintain the library’s social media presence.
  • Design promotional materials for both online and print platforms
  • Write and edit press releases.
  • Responsible for photo documentation of events and programs to be used in publicity
  • Work collaboratively with all Library departments to ensure programs, services, and collections are effectively marketed.
  • Oversee and write content for Library newsletter.
  • Oversee in-house promotions, including flyers, digital kiosks, and signage.
  • Collect data, compile statistics, and prepares reports on services and programs.
  • May represent the library at meetings or events in and around the Newburgh community.
  • Supervise Marketing and Communications and Programming staff.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Work regular shifts on the reference desk
  • Assist patrons in the use of library resources and databases
  • Provide reader advisory services and general reference
  • Assist patrons with technology needs
  • Work as part of a team to ensure all patrons needs are met in a timely and courteous manner

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES

  • Knowledge of current library trends, practices, and standards as related to marketing and data analysis
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, staff, community members and organizations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Accuracy, time management, organizational skills and attention to detail are priorities
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program
  • NYS Public Library Certificate

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Salary range: $58,966 – $82,372 depending on experience. Health insurance, vision, dental, and participation in the New York State Retirement System. Employees receive generous vacation, sick leave, and flex days.
