Library and Knowledge Services Intern, The Brattle Group, Boston, MA (Part-Time Internship)

THE POSITION
The Brattle Group, a privately held, global economics consulting firm, is looking for a Library and Knowledge Services Intern to join our Boston, MA office. This paid, part-time internship will be a six-month assignment to start and will report to the Senior Knowledge Services Specialist. The intern will provide general support to the Library & Knowledge Services’ offerings across the firm. This position requires the intern to be in the Boston office at least once per week, ideally on Thursdays.
Some of the day-to-day responsibilities of this role include:
- Execute and manage requests for articles, books, and chapters for consulting projects and collection development
- Communicate relevant copyright policies related to requested materials to ensure copyright compliance
- Provide research assistance to consultants on a broad spectrum of topics with a particular focus on business, industry, economic, and legal subjects
- Follow L&KS’ standard operating procedure for cataloging new acquisitions (articles, books, eBooks, new databases, etc.)
- Manage catalog queue, working through a backlog of uncatalogued content and adding new content
- Help maintain physical collection in the Boston office
- Create and populate records in the firm’s project information database (Sage); perform regular updates to records based on ongoing project work
- Collaborate with members of the Marketing and Legal teams to fill data gaps and errors in existing records
- Work with Senior Knowledge Services Specialist to improve knowledge management workflows
- Take the lead on evaluating and researching workflow tracking systems (reference tracker)
- Refresh existing user guides and develop guides for newly licensed databases
- Update the L&KS’ intranet (SharePoint)
THE CANDIDATE
- MLS/MLIS graduate school student (or similar advanced degree program) who has completed reference and cataloging courses; knowledge management coursework preferred
- Familiarity with basic principles, standards, and best practices regarding controlled vocabularies and metadata
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook/Office Suite and experience with SharePoint, or a willingness to learn
- Experience with an ILS and/or reference management software strongly preferred
- Dedicated focus on customer service while exercising good judgment in the handling of confidential information and matters
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills
