Access Services Librarian, MBLWHOI, (Falmouth, MA)

The MBLWHOI Library is seeking a full time librarian with a strong commitment to customer service to manage a full range of access services to our users at the scientific institutions in Woods Hole. The Access Services Librarian is responsible for the day-to-day activity and the efficient operation of circulation, interlibrary loan and document delivery.

This is a full-time in person position working Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities include:
Manages all ILL activities for the MBLWHOI Library including coordinating customer service; requesting materials from lending libraries worldwide, supplying requested materials to borrowing libraries; and administering the department’s copyright compliance policy.
Maintains and evaluates statistics.
Actively participates on the local, regional or national level in associations, and attends professional conferences and continuing education programs.
Maintains current knowledge of issues and trends in interlibrary loan while educating and updating the staff through workshops, meetings and informal communications.
Set standards and works with staff to institute best practices for procedures and workflows.
Authors and maintains policies and procedures documentation for interlibrary loan.
Manages circulation of library materials including renewals and recalls.
Works collaboratively with all members of the Library staff to provide services needed by the Woods Hole Scientific Community.
Maintains the physical circulating monograph collection.
Works collaboratively with other units in the Library to identify ways to ensure interoperability of metadata and discovery systems and to improve resource discoverability.
Maintains catalog records to reflect status changes and current access to materials.
 

Qualifications

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships with a diverse population of staff and students.
Familiarity with Library systems including OCLC, Integrated Library Systems, ILLiad and Rapid.
Demonstrated ability to establish work priorities, set performance expectations, achieve goals.
Excellent organizational and office skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs and database management.
Strong customer service attitude and initiative.
 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Understanding of metadata schemas, including MARC. Evidence of understanding of semantic web and Linked data and the nature of metadata, systems, and user expectations around search and discovery
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry 25-50 pounds.
This position is mostly sedentary with occasional standing and walking.
This position requires repetitive motion, kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing ladders/stools, use of hands for basic grasping/manipulation and reaching above and below the shoulders.
Exposure to dust or other irritants will occur.
This is an in-person position.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree is required.

ALA-accredited master’s degree in information/library science or at least 2 years’ experience in a library or information services is preferred.

Minimum Salary:$50,000.00  / year
