The East Smithfield Public Library is seeking a collaborative full-time Library Director to lead our team in serving our local Smithfield community. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, the Director will advance our mission to fulfill our patrons’ informational, cultural, and community needs. East Smithfield Library is housed in the historic Dorothy Dame building, a former school, in the village of Esmond. The library is maintained by a staff of 16 full and part-time employees and serves our community of 10,000 with a sizable physical catalog and newer maker space where patrons engage in hands-on learning using a wide variety of creative tools. Education and Experience
· MLS or MLIS in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution
· Five years of public library experience that includes management responsibilities and staff supervision in a multitasking environment
· Experience working with Quickbooks preferred.
Essential Functions
· Prepares, coordinates, and submits the annual library budget proposal for review by Board and participates in its presentation to local officials.
· Train, supervise and recommend discipline for employees, coordinate and delegate workloads and work schedules, evaluate work performance and maintain high standards of library service. Work closely with Board when proposing changes in staff.
· Plans and conducts regular staff meetings, oversees staff training.
· Maintains a functional understanding of all operations.
· Helps prepare Board meeting agendas and necessary reports in cooperation with the Library Board chairs. Posts meetings, agendas and minutes on the Secretary of State website.
· Directs and supervises the maintenance of the library building and grounds. Works with the Town Manager and Board to help facilitate updates and repairs.
· Informs and advises the Board as to local, regional, state and national developments in the library field and works to maintain communication with other area libraries.
· Acts as spokesperson for the library. Relates library objectives to community needs, and represents the library on community boards and committees.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationship with Library Board and staff, volunteer groups, local and state officials, the general public and community groups.
· Oversees the library’s ongoing collection development plan and supervises the selection, purchase and withdrawal of library materials in accordance with that plan.
· 40 hours per week
· Flexible work hours; possible evening and weekend hours.
· Performs other related work as required by the Board.
· Salary $70,000-$80,000
