The State Library of Massachusetts is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and detail-
oriented library intern to assist the Government Documents Librarian with the
acquisition and maintenance of the Library’s Massachusetts state documents,
Massachusetts local documents and federal documents collections. This intern will help
with digitizing documents and uploading to the digital repository. They will assist the
Reference Librarians at the Information desk and participate in tours and orientations.
This intern will gain knowledge about Massachusetts State government, state
documents, legal and legislative resources, along with collection development and
maintenance. The State Library was established in 1826 to collect, deposit, and house
the Commonwealth’s collections of maps, statute books, and government documents in
a single central location. Since that time, the State Library has grown into a multifaceted
and reliable resource for legislators, executive personnel, state employees, historians,
genealogists, and users from all over the world. Come and join us and bring your passion

Duties:
- Under the supervision of Librarians, assists with maintaining a list of Massachusetts state agency contacts and corresponds with agencies to check on the status of paper and electronic documents.
- Helps locate Massachusetts electronic documents existing on agency websites, news media, social media, etc.
- Helps monitor the electronic documents email box for documents.
- Uploads government documents into our DSpace digital depository.
- Assists at the information desk
Qualifications:
- MLS student interested in Massachusetts government documents and history
- Familiarity with digital repository software and content management systems a plus
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Suite, and the ability to learn other software applications independently
- Experience with scanning equipment and tools a plus
- Interest in Massachusetts legal and legislative resources a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
- Ability to work independently and juggle multiple priorities
