The Town of Hopkinton seeks a Reference Technology Librarian

Under the direction of the Reference and Technology Supervisor, this position assists patrons at the reference desk; coordinates, supports, and troubleshoots technology and technological services within the library in collaboration with Town IT as needed; serves as a bridge between IT and library staff for process improvement; maintains the library’s social media presence; develops and conducts technology instruction and education programs for patrons and staff; develops, suggests and implements policies and procedures regarding library technologies as needed; and promotes, maintains, and educates the public about Library of Things items. 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: 

Knowledge of principles and practices of professional library work, procedures and basic reference sources and research techniques.  


Knowledge and proficiency in innovative technology and electronic resource use, instruction and troubleshooting. Interest and ability to acquire new technology skills as needed. Experience utilizing Google Workspace for productivity and collaboration preferred. 


Ability to collaborate with the Reference and Technology team as well as other Library staff on the Library of Things.


Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment.


Skill in customer service. 


Skill in social networking applications and tools. Experience maintaining a social media presence for an organization preferred.  
 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, and one (1) to three (3) years experience in a similar position in a public library with at least one (1) year of reference/adult services experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program preferred.  Students working toward completion of their MLS degree will also be considered. Technology experience is strongly preferred.
